I learned alot of great lessons from a visit from Dan Hughes to my Castle Hills basketball team. Of course, I always learn when I am around Coach Hughes and feel blessed to have had the chance to work for him.
One of the biggest “nuggets” I took away from the visit was his speech on trying to win everyday. It was very powerful message that hit home with me and the players as well. Check out the video to see how you can win today and everyday.
Great message. A lot deeper than what it may appear on the surface I feel. If I think about raising my boys for example, how am I going to register that win today? In order to do that I have to evaluate where they are at this moment and what I am trying to do for them. It doesn’t have to be about basketball, it could be about their spiritual needs, it could be about school, self discipline…the list goes on and on. So now I have to evaluate where they are, what is the goal, and how do I game plan that win. Kind of brings us back to self reflection, when done honestly I have yet to register a win with that approach.
As it relates to basketball, my son loves the game, he insists without knowing what it could take that he wants to be the best. He is only 7, he may not always feel this way, but he does right now. So starting tomorrow he heads to Spartan camp for the week. Judging by how far he has come in just a month of scoring clinics, I will happily be marking down a win for his development as I head back to work next Monday through Friday.
